Spreadsheet Methods FETAC Level 5 - Module Code B20028

Programme Aim

This module has been designed to provide extensive practical experience in the use of spreadsheet software in typical business and other activities.

Learners who successfully complete this module will:

  • Understand spreadsheets and their range of application
  • Design spreadsheets for a range of tasks
  • Create spreadsheets from design specification(s)
  • Utilise a wide range of functions, including macros and other functions
  • Create a spreadsheet, according to a given brief, under time constraints
  • Demonstrate personal initiative and resourcefulness in responding to spreadsheet assignments

Training Content - Learning is grouped into 3 specific units

Unit 1 - Basic Spreadsheet Concepts
Unit 2 - Spreadsheet Design and Implementation
Unit 3 - Macros and additional functions

Method of Assessment

Examination – students will sit an examination which is worth 50% of the total marks.

Project - Students will receive a detailed brief which they will follow in order to complete the project. The project is developed for the learner to bring various learning outcomes during the module to a real life situation.

Preferred Entry Level

A learner seeking entry to this course at Level 5 does not need a previous formal qualification. Some learners may have achieved certification at Level 4 e.g. leaving certificate or FETAC Level 4 certificate. Learners at Level 5 will need to be proficient at reading, drafting, preparing and understanding information. This module will include individual and team working activities. All resources are provided as part of the programme and learners will receive supports and guidance from their tutors.

Programme Duration

The course is part-time. It will run 6 hours per week over 5 weeks. Learners need to be able to complete some work and research outside of course hours. Usually this programme requires 10 hours maximum of personal work outside the course time.
