Soul Motivational Training Courses: Self Advocacy FETAC Level 3 - Module Code GF0034
Programme Aim
This programme assists learners to practice and gain credit for a range of self advocacy skills necessary for many work, social and life situations. This module provides opportunities for candidates to identify, select, manage and collate evidence of their own learning. Candidates who are successful in this module will practise a range of core skills, which provide a basis for life-long learning.
Learners who successfully complete this module will:
- Understand what is meant by the term self-advocacy
- Have a clear understanding of what self-advocacy measures are required to find their own solutions to the issues faced by them, their families and other relevant stakeholders
- Able to appropriately and adequately utilise the anticipated enhanced self-advocacy capacity to benefit themselves, their families and other relevant stakeholders
Training Content - The specific learning outcomes are grouped into 3 units.
Unit 1 - Understanding Self Advocacy
Unit 2 - Practical Advocacy Skills
Unit 3 - Rights
Method of Assessment
A Self Advocacy portfolio is produced at the end of the module and will contain
- Assignment Candidates present an assignment, designed by the centre, on a theme chosen in negotiation with learners, which demonstrates their achievement of a range of Specific Learning Outcomes.
- Log Book Candidates present a log book of learning which includes details of three activities, tasks and work carried out during the module.
- A personal reflection on any learning or insights which occurred as a result of the experiences.
Work for the assignment and the log book may be presented in written, graphic, audio or audiovisual form, or a combination of these.
Preferred Entry Level
A learner seeking entry to this course at Level 3 does not need a previous formal qualification. This module will include individual and team working activities. All resources are provided as part of the programme and learners will receive supports and guidance from their tutors.
Programme Duration
The course is part-time and 16 hours in duration. There is flexibility in terms of hours to suit particular learning and organisation needs and will be arranged with each centre as requested. Learners need to be able to complete some work and research outside of course hours. Usually this programme requires 3 hours maximum of personal work outside the course time.
