Communications FETAC Level 5 - Module Code G20001
Programme Aim
Communication skills are highly valued in the all aspects of our working and personal life.
Learners who successfully complete this module will:
- develop an awareness of the essential role played by communication in human interaction
- acquire communication skills relevant to vocational and personal development
- understand the communicative principles and practices involved in gathering and relaying information
- acquire the skills and confidence to convey and interpret meaning, in writing, orally and visually
- develop a critical awareness of communications messages and media
- explore the use of modern communication and information technology, and its application in personal and vocational life.
Training Content - The specific learning outcomes are grouped into 4 units.
Unit 1 - Listening and Speaking
Unit 2 - Reading and Writing
Unit 3 - Non-Verbal and Visual Communication
Unit 4 - Communications Technology
Method of Assessment
Collection of Work 50% - Students will receive detailed instructions which will enable them to produce a collection of work relating to specific learning outcomes.
Skills Demonstration 50% - students will complete a range of skills which will form 50% of their overall portfolio marks.
Preferred Entry Level
A learner seeking entry to this course at Level 5 does not need a previous formal qualification. Some learners may have achieved certification at Level 4 e.g. leaving certificate or FETAC Level 4 certificate. Learners at Level 5 will need to be proficient at reading, drafting, preparing and understanding information. This module will include individual and team working activities. All resources are provided as part of the programme and learners will receive supports and guidance from their tutors.
Programme Duration
The course is part-time. It will run 6 hours per week over 5 weeks. Learners need to be able to complete some work and research outside of course hours. Usually this programme requires 10 hours maximum of personal work outside the course time.
